Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then located numerous other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
