Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's initial championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after spring of 2023.

The win also means he has won twenty-one victories at 21 different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to advance forward and play positively, supported by an enhanced service.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.

The opponent rescued 4 early chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
